Medicare Rebates

From 1st July 2025, Medicare rebates to see a Sport & Exercise Medicine (SEM) Physician go up significantly, reducing the out-of-pocket cost of a consultation, but only if you have referral from your GP or another specialist.

This rebate will apply to our most senior doctors:

Referrals assist us in liaising with your primary care provider and other clinicians involved in your care. A referral will also result in a significantly higher Medicare rebate if you require ultrasound as part of an injection procedure. We greatly value referrals from your allied health team as this improves the care we can provide, but unfortunately these are not able to be used for Medicare rebate purposes. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to seek a referral from your regular doctor, whenever possible.

If you do not have a referral from your doctor, you will still be able to see one of our SEM Physicians, but the out-of-pocket cost will most likely be much higher. Alternatively, we encourage you to book with one of our other Sport & Exercise Doctors:

This change has come about after many years of lobbying by the Australasian College of Sport & Exercise Physicians (ACSEP) so that we can provide better and more affordable care to our patients. All our doctors are members of ACSEP.
